Well things were downright dangerous last week around this time.. hope everyone out there is back on the grid and ok!

positive phase of the PNA is happening and we’re looking at dry and benign weather into the long range. High pressure will be lurking over bc for a while. Not warm (because November).

Polar lobes are flirting with us next Thursday keeping things interesting. I’ll update here on that this week.

Friday night! Heads up.. was just checking the HRRR and the NAM sussing out the deal with this atmospheric river about to hit us.

Tonight we start off with gusts to about 40MPH from the south. Some rain can be expected but we’re generally rain shadowed. Definitely NOT wind shadowed however. . .

By Friday night into Saturday we’re going to see a surge of westerly wind ripping down the strait and causing a scene from up north across to mukilteo.

I’ve been tracking this to see if the wind models would back down, but they seem to be ramping up.

Yesterday this event was expected to be around 45mph and now we’re looking at 60mph.

That’s not good for us, you know how it goes around here!

Dust off the generator, fill the car with gas, grab some hot coco and a good book. This is the real deal folks.

Rain dance worked🤣… it’s on and off storms from now til the end of the 10-day models. Things are looking active! No windstorms on the radar yet, but I’m looking out for any that may spin up. The potential is there, so in addition to the rain I’ve got an eye on the gradients on these systems.

Sunday should be nice before we go back into rain mode at the start of the workweek.

There’s 4 or 5 different systems in the next 6 or 7 days.. so if it’s not raining now, it will be 🙏 soon - pack a jacket 🌧️🌧️

HRRR surface smoke is showing a burst of onshore winds. Just 14 hours to go and we’ll be out of this hell.

Although I’m becoming less and less impressed with the GFS as a quality modeling system I can certainly appreciate the 7-day quantitive precipitation forecast that it just spit out — things are looking on track from my last few posts! Will get the details once we move into hi resolution modeling range.

Winter is coming.

Sunday 10:52AM – let’s talk about this smoke. Really wanted to get outside today and enjoy the warmth, but this AQI is not working for me, so I’m turning to the models and I’m seeing a welcome relief for the start of the school/work week.

Looks like the finger of stratus clouds stretching from the central coast up to cape flattery will enter the chat tonight and help to scrub some of this smoke air out, replacing it with low clouds and fog.

Expecting the marine influence will bring down the AQI tomorrow.

Weather foamers – is the trend going to end? Yes and no.

Unfortunately smoke is coming back this week - so enjoy this burst of fresh air if you’re reading this and it’s still clear.

The ridge and diurnal winds are going to bring that smoke from the cedar creek fire across the sound again.

Higher temps inbound for the weekend with warm / dry / sun / smoke. SeaTac might make an attempt to break all time highs in the mid 80s.

BUT!! (Big grain of salt here) this is the first day I’m seeing multiple signals of a pattern change 10 days out. It’s still out in fantasy land but hey it’s there. GFS and Euro in agreement on a possible major weather change coming.

I’ll be following the next few model runs to scope what might be incoming for us. Would be fun to kick off fall with a snowstorm (just putting it out there 😜)

Will we get in on the action today??

I don’t have pics of lightning ⚡️ so here’s a ladybug 🐞instead … Tuesday night into Wednesday morning I’m seeing lightning all over western wa. People who’ve grown up or lived in the Midwest or tropical areas probably don’t froth on lightning, but when you’ve grown up on the west coast and haven’t lived anywhere else — lightning is AMAZING. So fun! It’s a real show.

Mini-fall is welcome relief to this weather nerd. Thursday we keep the party going with rain (not much but hey, it’s August!?) and then we revisit the heat similar to what we all just lived through on sat sun, monday.

Models are showing some agreement long term (5-7 days) that the remnants of hurricane Fred will mingle with us and we might, just might, get some t-storms Tuesday or Wednesday

🤩 wow so NAS Whidbey is barely breaking 80 on this heatwave. Looks like we might just luck out and stay below 90 here. Friday harbor is even cooler. Whew 😅
